Hiking: Visit alltrails.com for a list of local trails.
Spectacular Sunsets; On a clear evening, beautiful sunsets and panoramic views can be seen from the Mt Tarrengower lookout and Rock of Ages. Pack a picnic rug and bubbles for the full experience
Eating Out; Maldon is situated in the middle of the “foodie triangle” between Daylesford, Castlemaine and Bendigo. All are within a 30 minute drive and have an abundance of eating-out options.
Bendigo has been recognised by UNESCO as a City Of Gastronomy, visit Bendigoregion.com.au for more information. Our favourite Bendigo restaurants are Goldmines Hotel (which has a beautiful heated courtyard and amazing beer garden in one of Bendigo’s oldest historic gardens) or Masons.
In Castlemaine we love WILD, the Bridge Hotel and Das Kaffehaus.
Further Afield; Visit goldfieldsguide.com.au for a list of day trips in the surrounding area including Turpin Falls and Melville Caves (historic hide-out for bushrangers).
Art: The Bendigo Art Gallery is excellent and has regular special exhibits. The Castlemaine Art Gallery has a collection of works by notable Australian artists. The region also has a strong arts community with many local galleries and artist studios across the region, see Visit Victoria – Goldfields region.
Markets; Castlemaine Farmer’s Market is held on the 1st Sunday of every month. Maldon Market is held on the 2nd Sunday of every month. Bendigo Community Farmers Market is the second Saturday of each month.
